Tired Toes? A Different Approach to Your Massage Routine

Trotting around Manhattan for work meetings? Schlepping with your tourist friends across the Brooklyn Bridge or getting ready to hoof it from Williamsburg to brunch in Bushwick? While you might be shuffling through your week just to get to that massage for that weekend relaxation treat, you may want to consider a new way to melt into that massage table by treating your whole body through your feet with reflexology in Brooklyn.

Yup, through your feet with reflexology (here at Darcy Stockton Massage Therapy we call it our “Tired Toes” Embellishment). It is the perfect way to relax or treat pain-relief when you can’t quite get a full-body massage.

What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a old bodywork modality the origin of which can be traced back to early China. It involves the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet. Reflexologists believe that these reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the person’s well-being and health. Although reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure health disorders, millions of people around the world use it to complement other treatments when addressing conditions like anxiety, digestive issues, diabetes, cardiovascular health, etc.

How does it work?
Reflexologists are experts at reflexology that believe the modality reduces stress. By stress-reduction the body can heal itself. There are a few more theories on how this works. Theories include reasoning that reflexology works within the pathways of the nervous system, that reflexology improves the quality of “qi” or “vital energy” that reflexology helps reduce the stress response which can improve mood, provide pain relief, and that reflexology improves “qi” or “vital energy.

What is it good for?
Reflexology is great for relaxation, reducing symptoms like poor digestion or nausea, reducing chronic pain, and helping us find balance in our lives by increasing our awareness of our felt self and soothing our sweet souls.

What to expect?
At a reflexology session, specifically our Tired Toes Embellishment, your therapist or reflexologist will perform a thorough intake to discuss your treatment goals. The therapist will then perform a reflexology session on your feet. Despite the treatment goals or your ailment, the therapist treats the entire zones and reflex points with gentle finger pressure that can treat organs, glands, bones, and places that correspond to muscle discomfort. Treating the entire foot opens up the neural pathways and releases stagnation and congestion in the whole body to promote greater well-being and relaxation.

In addition to our excellent Tired Toes Embellishment, we have a new therapist with us Rachel F. who is a certified reflexologist. She incorporates reflexology with another gentle approach called Tragerwork. Her reflexology appointments will not only help your aching feet but with her care and creative intuitive work intuition can help to integrate the body, mind, emotions, and spirit so you can step back out into your day renewed and refreshed.
